| As an editor, what can I expect?
| |
| As an editor you can create coast sites by filling in forms and editing your text in an online text editor.
Afterwards it is always possible to update your input. As for images, you will be asked to send them in by email.
Perhaps it looks complicated when you read all the text below, don't be afraid, it isn't!

Personal information
Personal information you have to fill in is kept to the minimum: apart from your login name and password you are asked for your full name and email address.
Your email address is needed to communicate with you, for instance about lost passwords. Also you can allow visitors to react to your coastal site(s).
In this case they fill in a form and you will receive the reaction by email. Visitors will not get your email address unless you respond them.

Coastal site(s)
To build a coastal site you are presented seven steps.
1. Coast data
Fill in a form about your coast. The most difficult item maybe the latitude (N/S) or and longitude (E/W) data.
After activation (step 7) these data are used to project your coast on the geographical maps. Suggestions how to obtain these data are given.
2. Edit text
An so called wysiwyg editor is used to enter your text about the coast. Cutting and pasting from other sources is possible.
How to build up your text is discussed in a specific page.
3. Edit links
If you want you can add up to four links to your coastal site. For instance you can link to your personal website with under water images or provide a link to a dive center at the coast.
4. Upload images
Photos of landscapes above and under water and of marine life at your coast are very welcome.
Only .jpg images can be uploaded to the site. After loading you always can reorder or remove your images if you like.
To avoid the site being to slow big images will be compressed to about 100Kb and a maximum of 35 photos pro coast is set.
If you prefer to compress images yourself: images less then 100 Kb in size are loaded without change.
In case you use names logos or watermarks please do not let them dominate the picture.
Images will be published in a way that visitor's can't download them in an obvious way.
But guarantees can't be given, it is not possible to avoid users collecting images from their browser's cache.
Of course your photos won't be used for any other purpose then publication at this site.
5. Edit image captions (text)
To fill in the captions a form is used as well. Three fields are used: description, scientific name (if the main object is an organism) and the name of the photographer.
I can help you to find the scientific name.
6. Check the site
Check the coastal site before activation.
7. Activate the coast
Activate the site by pressing a button. A red dot will appear on the world map on the homepage and a continental map. Ready!
